Spring break ‘99: time to have fun

Angela Dobryznski

“So, what are you doing for spring break?”

Well, if you haven’t made plans yet, now would definitely be a good time. Spring break for Glendale Community College students and faculty is March 15-21. Time goes by extremely fast, so don’t let it pass you by!

If you’re a college student, I’m sure you know what I mean. Those exams that just seem to arrive, before you have time to prepare for them, and Mondays that are here before you know it can wear you out. So do yourself a favor, and relax this holiday!
Spring break offers so many opportunities. For those who want extra money, a job is always helpful, or you can work more hours at the job you already have. Perhaps that sounds like a drag now, but those paychecks will make up for it. Besides, there are always the day trips you can take.

If time isn’t a problem, Sedona or Flagstaff always make excellent road trips. Whether you decide to stay a day or longer, the fresh air will do any city person good. The hiking is excellent and the views are breathtaking.

In addition to the beauty of Northern Arizona, there are some great shopping spots as well. Sedona has cute little shops for everyoneto enjoy.

According to the Internet, some of the hottest locations this season include Panama City or Daytona Beach, Fla.; South Padre, Texas; and Steamboat, Colo.

Other popular locations include California and Mexico, which have always been familiar locations for Zonies. Regardless of the choice, there’s bound to be plenty of sun for a classroom-bound visitor.

Last spring break, I went to San Diego with my best friend.

Believe me, there’s nothing like the wonderful climate, the ocean, the sun and the nightlife in that city only a few hours away by car and just about an hour by airplane.

Suggestions I have are to become familiar with the streets — read the maps and understand them. Also understand the taxi and bus routes or you might wind up in the wrong part of town, at a much later time than anticipated.

The days in California are much warmer than the nights, so don’t forget that jacket. This is true for just about anywhere this springtime, so before you pack your bags visit the weather site on the Internet.

There are many ways to find spring break ideas, but for the best information, try the Internet. There you can find information on locations, prices, and even maps. Also check The Arizona Republic, and various newspapers, magazines, and books. There’s also people — talk to each other, get additional opinions.

So whatever you decide to do this spring break, have fun! After all, it’s the last break of the millennium. Make it memorable!
