Higher Education at greater costs per proposed tuition increase

The Maricopa Community College District (MCCD) Governing Board is being asked to study a proposal for a $2 per credit hour increase in tuition for the 1999-2000 school year.

This increase would raise the cost of tuition and fees from $38 to $40 per credit hour. Therefore, the increase for a full time student enrolled in 15 credit hours would be an additional $30 per semester.


S.P.I.R.I.T. club encouraging religious tolerance by providing information

The S.P.I.R.I.T. Club at Glendale Community College has important goals to reach. The main goal is to encourage people to be tolerant of each other and to get information out on different religions.

Door replacement controversy

Have you ever stopped to notice the main entrance doors at the Student Union?

They are old, dark, stained glass double doors, and recently Glendale Community College has proposed replacing the doors with new sliding glass doors, the kind you see at your local supermarkets.


A harmonious blend of talent, diversity

“The GCC Chamber Singers are an auditioned group of approximately 20 to 24 singers,” says the Chamber Singers instructor Craig Peterson. “Some of the students are voice majors but many are not. They meet three times a week and perform mainly a cappella music from the renaissance through the twentieth century as well as some vocal jazz music.

AZ Humanities Council educates through public speaking forum

One of the many community involvement programs sponsored by the Humanities Council is the Speakers Bureau. Its’ purpose is to transport scholars, teachers, tribal leaders, elders, and qualified cultural practitioners into the community with a public speaking forum. Individuals participating in the program encourage cultural diversity by speaking on topics they specialize in.

Individuals thinking about a job shift within a company they already work for may find themselves in need of a higher degree than the one they currently hold. Persons holding an Associate of Applied Science degree in fire science, law enforcement, paralegal or any specialized degree program can now earn a bachelors degree to satisfy educational needs to facilitate promotion.
