I think that school spirit has been lacking for some time at GCC. I feel that students who attend school should show there spirit and pride for there school. I have been at GCC for a year I’ve noticed that the school spirit that students show is low. I have not seen very much student or club participation at on campus. There is not much advertising or announcements about up-coming events that are being hosted. I think that GCC should do a better job of informing the students on what’s going on at GCC. I understand that sometimes it is difficult to get the word out to all of the students on campus. However, if Associated Student Government (ASG) would do a better job at informing the students of upcoming events, our school spirit might improve greatly. For example, this past week wasHomecoming and I did not see any advertising for it on campus, nor did I see anyone promoting it on the mall. I was disappointed in the lack of pride for GCC that I was seeing. I would not have even known that it was homecoming had I not been on the newspaper. It seems to me the only people who know about upcoming events are people who have an email account linked to campus announcements or those who visit the web site for GCC. I understand that GCC is a community college and that students who attend college here are either attending concurrently with another community college or a university and all they want to do is go to their classes then leave campus to go home, to work or to their next college. However there are students, such as myself, who are full-time students at GCC and would like to show their pride for the school. Some suggestions that I have to help improve GCC is to have clubs and organizations start advertising for upcoming events. This newspaper tries to help out by offering free advertising to each club once a semester. Also, ASG should start promoting events to improve the attendance. Another suggestion that a few groups have done is to place flyers around the campus announcing upcoming events. GCC is a great school that has many great programs and organizations for students. It is full of life and exciting opportunities. We just need to improve our communication of events so that students have more opportunities to show their school spirit and pride for GCC.
