Glendale’s local band scene easy to find
Caylee Rogers
All bands have to start somewhere, whether it may be a garage or basement. As consumers, it is easy to forget that usually a band does not appear overnight. A band may have to practice and work for years establishing a fan base. The exception may be commercialized sell outs that are given a free ride. Helping local bands be heard means the community may need to get in touch with the up-coming scene.
Around Glendale there are a few bars doubling as music venues because they are trying to liven the music scene. There are a plethora of bands here in Glendale just waiting to be heard. Not only can music lovers go out to hear local bands, but they can also find them online. The website, azlocalmusic.com has hundreds of bands with demos that are easy to hear and it is free to gain access to the site. Another site to visit is azlocalbands.com. It is a website devoted strictly towards local venues and shows. On this site, there is a listing of upcoming shows, music videos, and venue listing.
In addition to the strictly local music sites, there are also other websites. One is called collective underground.com, which lists local artists. Pure volume.com is another music site that makes listening to music easy. On this site you can download music for free straight from the band website.
Knowing what to look for is not hard. All that needs to be done is some random selections based on band names or genres. A little browsing is necessary to fully appreciate the number of residents here in Arizona that have gotten involved in making music, your next door neighbor, doctor, or the kid working late night at Carl’s Jr. might actually be the next big thing. It is a necessity for a band to have fans, other than their family members, so hop on the train now before the caboose falls of the tracks.
Staying on track is easy when crowds bring motivational energy to a show. Hell On Heels, is a all girl band that went from playing in grungy venues to their 2004 tour of the west coast. In March of 2004 the ladies graced the cover of Phoenix New Times magazine promoting their new record with Bomp Records. The band has a website at bomp.com/HoH.html where you can download a song from their new CD. Not all bands make it out of the garage, so it is important to give everyone of them a chance to show what they are made of. Some bands will play just for love and those are the ones to keep an eye out for.
