Template Designs with Server-Side Includes

[Presented by Karen Russo and Dennis Topel (not pictured)]

Karen Russo of GCC Training & Employee Development shared her experience with a template she trains faculty to use for publishing a syllabus -- in the form of multiple sections linked together in a web site that is easy to navigate -- while minimizing the time and web prowess required for the job.

The template is made to work with server-side includes, simple codes which allow for combining elements of multiple web pages (like frames, but without all of the disadvantages of frames) and can prove to be a time saver in maintaining a wide variety of sites on compatible server systems. While Karen highlighted the end-user applicability of the SSI scheme, fellow TED staff member Dennis Topel answered questions about how to make the SSIs work on the web developer's side of the job.

An overview of this technique is provided at: http://www.gc.maricopa.edu/ted/resources/SSI.htm
